Wardrobe from Hawk & Dove Boutique
Holly Dawes is a ceramicist based in Hastings whose work is deeply connected to the local landscape. She gathers wild clays and minerals from the shoreline and surrounding woods, creating pieces that echo the raw materials and textures of the area. Her practice moves fluidly between functional and sculptural ceramics, always rooted in process and place. She regularly exhibits her work across the UK, most recently with the Folde 2025 exhibition at The Mint House, Pevensey.

Holly has recently moved her studio and practice, The Wonki Pot, to the beautiful Craft Barn at Crafted at Powdermills in Battle. There, she teaches ceramics and runs workshops focused on hand-building, wild-clay techniques, and the sensory, hands-on nature of working with clay.
We sourced Holly’s wardrobe for this editorial through Hawk & Dove, nestled in Old Town, Hastings. With a dedication to craftsmanship, sophistication, and quality, the owner, Jade, curates every piece from natural fabrics, sharp tailoring, and hand-finished vintage finds. Their edit seamlessly brings together timeless European vintage and refined English pieces, making it the perfect destination to find stunning additions to your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. This season, their selection of knitwear is particularly outstanding — think cosy Aran jumpers, textured tweeds, and elevated wool knits that layer effortlessly and stand the test of time. Recognised for its unique selection, the boutique was even featured in a national list of the UK’s best independent shops. While you’re there, be sure to check out Hawk & Dove’s new range of enchanting perfumes and hand-picked antique silver jewellery.

Tucked away in 78 acres of ancient woodland and wrapped around a tranquil seven-acre lake, the newly opened Crafted at Powdermills in Battle reimagines the traditional hotel experience as a creative retreat where craftsmanship, nature, and wellbeing come together. Once home to historic gunpowder mills, the estate now celebrates a slower, more intentional way of living — inviting guests to explore its design-led rooms, lakeside cottages, craft studios, and nature trails. From wild swimming and wood-fired dining to workshops in the on-site Craft Barn, every detail at Crafted reflects a dedication to authenticity and the art of making. The result is a place where you can relax, reconnect, and be inspired — just a short drive from Hastings.
